Q

What were the causes for the revolt of Edwin and Morcar?

A

They were amongst the hostages William had taken to Normandy in 1067, which had been humiliating

William had initially promised marriage between Edwina and one of his daughters, but went back on this promise

Both lost land - their earldoms had been reduced in size and made much less important, losing money and power
