3-Lumbar ME Flashcards
Why do we do muscle energy?
mobilize joints, stretch msucles, improve circulation, fix respiratory fxn
What is the main method of muscle energy do we do?
Post isometric relaxation
What are some absolute contraindications?
fracture, dislocation, or severe joint instability, or uncocoperative pt
What are some relative contraindiciations?
Moderate to severe muscle strains, advanced osteoporosis, severe illness. Basically when the benefitsd outweight the risks.
What is the shape of lumbar vertebrae?
large (support weight), wedge shaped (higher in front)
What vertebral level is the iliac crests?
L4
Where are the spinous processes relative to the vertebral body in lubars?
Same level
What is th primary lumbar motion?
Flexion and extension
What way do the facets sit for lumbars?
backward and medial
Besides flex/ext, what 2 oither motions do lumbars do?
Sidebending and rotation
Rotation of the lumbars may cause what?
disk compression
O/I of lattissumus dorsi?
O-t7-L2, iliac crest. I-humerus
Action of lats?
adducts, extends and internally rotates arm
Why does the butt have to do with low back pain?
Because there are ties with thoracolumbar fascia
Action of gluteus?
extend hip and stablilize torso
What are the 3 erector spinae?
Iliocostalis, longissimus, Spinalis
Action of erector spinae?
extension and unilateral side bending
Actions of iliopasoas?
hip flexion, lumbar sidebending
What is the anatomy of the posterior longitudinal ligament in the lumbar region?
Narrows in the lubar region, decreases support and icnreases risk of disc herniation?
Fxn of iliolumbar ligament?
stablilizes the lumbosacral junction
What is the #1 way to get an accurate Dx in a differential Dx of back pain?
A GOOD HISTORY
What are type 1 dysfunction?
neutral, S and R to opposite side
