3 Dynamics Flashcards
Momentum
Momentum is defined as the product of a body’s mass and its linear velocity
Impulse
Impulse is defined as the product of the net force and the time interval which the force is applied
Newton’s first law
A body will stay at rest or continue to move at a constant velocity unless acted upon by a resultant external force
Newton’s second law
The rate of change of momentum of a body
is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on the body
and the momentum change takes place in the direction of the resultant force
Newton’s third law
When two bodies interact, the force acting on one body is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the force acting on the other body
Principle of conservation of linear momentum
The total momentum of a system remains constant provided no net external force acts on it
