Who does it affect?
A
Most common in women 35-55 y/os
Low incidence in men

What causes it?
A
Abnormal proliferation of ductal epithelial cells
Can be single or multiple

What risk factors are there?
A
OCP, HRT, lifetime oestrogen exposure

What signs may the patient have on examination?
A
Sometimes a palpable lump

How would you investigate?
A
Breast exam
Mammogram (or XR if <40)
FNA / core biopsy

Which other conditions might present similarly?
A
Benign and malignant lesions
Malignant nonpapillary tumours

What complications are there?
A
High-risk precursor lesion to breast cancer
