Origin-
infectious- bac,viral,fungal,parasites
Non infectious-
Aspiration,idiopathic
Duration- Acute,subacute, chronic
Bacterial pneumonia
E.coli, bordetella, klebsiella, pasteurella, pseudomonas, mycoplasma
Hematology- incr WBC
Radiology - alveolar pattern
Abx 6 weeks
Viral pneumonia
Distemper, morbivirus Fcv, fhv, fip Muculopurulent ocuulonasal discharge Pcr Radiology- interstitial or alveolar pattern
Aspiration pneumonia
Cause - megaoesophagus, laryngeal/ pharyngeal dysfunction Cough, tachypnoea, ARDS Cats - wheeze Dx history of vomiting or regurgitation GC contraindicated
Fungal pneumonia
Aspergillosis, cryptococus, histoplasma Immitis, blastomyces dermatitis
Itraconazole
Eosinophilic bronchpneumopathy
Inflam disease Huskies Dx by elimination of other causes BAL- eosinophils GC immunosuppressive dose for months
Pulmonary oedema
Causes
Noncardiogenic- high protein fluid- after near drowning, aspiration, trauma, obstruction
Cardiogenic - chf
Cs- dyspnoea then cyanosis then cough
Auscultation
Tx
ARDS
Hypoxemic resp. failure caused by lung injury and increased pulomonary capillary permeability.
