What does the elastic tissue do?
A
Stretches and recoils as the heart beats.

Inner Lining.
A
Called the endothelium.
Folded allowing the artery to stretch - helps maintain high blood pressure.

What type of blood do arteries carry?
A
All arteries carry oxygenated blood except for pulmonary arteries which take deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

Why do arteries stretch and recoil?
A
To cope with high blood pressure - stretch.
To cope with low blood pressure - recoil.
