3. blood groups of domestic animals Flashcards
1
Q
what are the 3 main differences between human blood cells and animals?
A
- in animals there are no antibodies
- in animals in many cases blood group antigens appear at the plasma and decreasing the chance of hemolysis of RBC
- hemolysis and not agglutinating
2
Q
what is the meaning of polyvalent serum
A
contains various different antibodies
3
Q
what is the meaning of neonatal isoerythrolysis?
A
when the mother has antibodies against the blood type of the newborn.
4
Q
how many blood groups and blood groups antigens there are in cattle?
A
13 blood groups, and app. 100 blood group antigens
5
Q
what is the method for determining the cattle blood group?
A
hemolysis method:
- RBC mixed with monovalent test serum + guinea pig or rabbit blood serum that contains complent factors
- positive reaction: antigen-antibody complex is formed-> lysis of the RBC
negative: RBC settle to the bottom of the test tube
