3 Biological Molecules Flashcards
What are carbohydrates made up of?
Made up of small basic units called simple sugars. Formed from carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. An example of a simple sugar is glucose.
Name the chemicals that make up proteins
Made up of long chains of amino acids linked together. Formed from carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. An example is haemoglobin.
Name the chemicals that make up lipids
Made from basic units called fatty acids and glycerol. There are three fatty acids in each lipid, and they vary in different lipids. They are important in forming cell membranes and other molecules in the body, such as fats in storage cells.
