the intrinsic, subjective features (content) perceived in an art object (emotions, storytelling, message) - often rely on greater knowledge of the artist and the historical/sociological context of the art
artistic properties
mental attitude of distanced contemplation for appreciating art, with no concern over the art’s usefulness, value, history, or classification - an end in itself, not as a means to the perceiver’s ends
aesthetic attitude
term describing the need to remove oneself from external awareness and practical attitudes in order to elaborate on and more thoroughly enjoy an aesthetic experience
