3# Flashcards
Types of Altitudes
Absolute (AGL), True (MSL), Indicated (Altimeter), Pressure (Altitude corrected for Non-Standard Pressure), Density (pressure alt. Corrected for non-standard temperature)
Altitude:Pressure ratio
Every 1000’ increase in altitude a 1” Hg decrease of pressure
Temperature or Pressure changes from High to Low
Your altimeter indicates higher then you truly are adjust altimeter frequently and fly at higher altitudes in colder temperatures
Temperature or Pressure changes from Low to High
You’re altimeter shows lower then truly are fly at conservative altitude because you’re shown a lower altitude then you truly are frequently change altimeter and adjust altitude for temperature
Calculating density altitude
Airport elevation + altimeter setting = pressure altitude
Adjust pressure altitude for outside temperature to get density altitude
Indicated Altitude defined
Approximate height above sea level
Types of air speed
Indicated (IAS), calibrated (CAS), true (TAS), ground speed (GS),
Indicated Airspeed (IAS)
Airspeed indicated on ASI
Calibrated Airspeed (CAS)
IAS corrected for installation errors by POH
True (TAS)
Airspeed corrected corrected for air density
