2# Flashcards
Pressure vs. Temperature
Changes in pressure do not effect performance near as much as variations of standard temperatures do
Standard Temperature
15C
Standard Lapse Rate
2C per 1000’
Temperature effects on air
Temperature increases air becomes less dense, higher pressure, decreasing performance, and decreasing speed.
Temperature decreases air becomes more dense, lower pressure, increasing performance, and increasing speed.
Temperature above 15C
Increases density altitude
Aircraft performance at higher altitude
Aircraft performs worse at higher altitude solely because of the decrease in density of air due to the less air at higher altitudes
Aircrafts parts affected by density of air
Carburetor, Cooling, propeller, and wing are affected by density of air
Propeller effects of decreased density
Less air means less thrust or pull due to less air to grab onto
Warm Air Mass
Rotates Counter-Clockwise, Less dense, Slower, Lifts, Higher pressure
Cold Air Mass
Denser, Less pressure, Rotate Clockwise, Faster, and Falls
