2nd stage of labour Flashcards
- define - mechanism
1
Q
Define 2nd stage
A
From the full dilitation of the cervix and descent of presenting part to birth of the baby
2
Q
Passive vs active 2nd stage
A
passive = rest and be thankful = full dilitation of cervix without / before involuntary contractions active = expulsive contractions and baby is visible. active maternal effort.
3
Q
Describe the 3 Ps
A
Passenger = fetus. attitude, station, position (OA) and moulding of the skull Powers = uterine cont. and maternal effort Passages = pelvis
4
Q
Labour mechanisms fill in the gaps
- —— = via gravity and contractions
- ——-= chin touches chest and —— attitude is adopted. This increases further when the head reaches the ———- of the birth canal, which allows the ——- diameter.
- ——- rotation of the —- = as the ——- reaches the pelvic floor, resistance causes it to rotate to allow for ——- diameter.
- ——– = when the head no longer recedes between contractions
- ——– of the head = allows face, forhead, chin to pass over the perineum
- ———- = twist of the neck to realign with shoulders
- Internal rotation of ——- = to allow for ——- ——— position
- —— —— = birth of the shoudlers by lateral flexion to accomodate —- – —–
A
Descent Flexion, flexed, resistance, smallest internal, head , occiput , longest Crowning Extension , perineum Restitution Shoulders, anterior posterior Lateral flexion, curve of carus
5
Q
