Saying or doing what is untrue with the intention of deceiving
Has a purpose of serving oneself by misinterpretation, deceit, and falsity.
Lying
Exaggerating one’s qualities in order to gain Affirmation and recognition for the others.
White Lies (Pasiklab)-
Scenario example of white lies
- “You look great in that outfit” (Even tho it’s ugly)
- “That was delicious” (Even if it wasn’t)
- “You did a great job!” (It was messy but I don’t want to hurt her feelings)
For saving face and
Preserving one’s supposed good image before others, or avoiding possible recriminations.
Escapist Lies (Palusot)-
Scenario example of Escapist Lies (Palusot)-
- “I’m fine” (To hide your real emotions)
- “It’s not my fault” (to shift the blame)
- “I don’t remember saying that” (to avoid accountability)
Simple and maybe regarded as “no big deal” but the damage it causes to the person who does and who lied to, may not be that easy to correct.
Careless Lies (Sabi-Sabi)-
A lie intended to harm others
Lies told from Malice
A lie which deceives the consumer about the true nature of the product in order to gain profit.
Lies of Propaganda or Profit-
Truth is twisted to say and mean something which is not so.
Lies of Hypocrisy or of half-truths-
Becomes lying when it is exaggerated used to gain or win undue favor from the authorities
Contrived Flattery of Others-
“Playing safe” A lie when one remains silent though obliged to speak in order to free himself/herself from further trouble
Silence (Pa-simple)-
A lie against our neighbor
Defamation-
Taking away or lessening another man’s fame unjustly.
