2f- Acid Alkali Titrations❗️ Flashcards
What are the two indicators used for acid-alkali titrations
Phenolphthalein + Methyl orange
What are the colours produced by universal indicator when a solution is acidic?
Brown, red, pink, orange
What are the colours produced by universal indicator when a solution is alkaline?
Purple, violet, dark blue, blue
What is produced during all neutralisation reactions?
Water (H2O)
What are acid-alkali titrations used for ?
Determining exactly how much alkali is needed to neutralise an amount of acid
What is litmus’ colour in acid?

Pink
What is Methyl orange’s colour in acid ?
Red
What is Methyl orange’s colour in alkali ?
Yellow
Describe how to carry out a titration
- fill a burette with hydrochloric acid + note the reading in cm3
- Measure out a volume of sodium hydroxide solution using pipette
- Put sodium hydroxide solution into conical flask
- add a few drops of indicator
- add acid to conical flask (swirling flask all the time)
- stop adding acid when colour changes
- read volume of acid in burette
- repeat experiment and find mean
