How did the Republican government view the unemployed?
The USA lacked an infrastructure to deal with mass unemployment.
Republican government conservative view was that people should work hard, and that unemployment was their fault. There was no federal aid, therefore charities were under tremendous strain.

Many lost their homes as a result of becoming unemployed and moved to the outskirts of urban areas. Shanty towns, sometimes homing thousands of people, grew as a result. Hoover was blamed for the lack of relief and support.

What happened to farmers after the depression?
Many failed on mortgage payments, sharecroppers failed to pay rent, and many were evicted. Food went to waste as farmers could not afford to harvest it.
