2a.1 - Acceleration, Velocity and Distance-Time Graphs Flashcards
What is speed?
How fast you’re going with no regard to the direction
What is velocity?
Speed and must have the direction specified
What does the gradient show on a distance-time graph?
Speed
What do flat sections show on a distance-time graph?
Where it’s stationary - It’s stopped
What does straight uphill or downhill on a distance-time graph show?
That it is travelling at a steady speed
What do curves show on a distance-time graph?
Acceleration or deceleration
How do you calculate speed from a distance-time graph?
vertical % horizontal
What is acceleration?
How quickly the velocity is changing. It can be a change in direction or speed or both
How do you calculate acceleration?
change in velocity % time taken
What does the gradient represent on a velocity-time graph?
Acceleration
What do flat sections represent on a velocity-time graph?
Steady speed
What does the steepness of the graph represent on a velocity-time graph?
Acceleration or deceleration
What does a curve show on a velocity - time grapg?
Changing acceleration
What effects does gravitational force have?
- On the surface of a planet, it makes all things accelerate towards the ground
- It gives everything weight
What is mass?
The amount of ‘stuff’ in an object which is the same value anywhere in the universe
