What is a false positive?
occurs when a genetic test has wrongly detected a faulty chromosome
What is a false negative?
when a genetic test has failed to detect a certain allele or faulty chromosome
What does genetic testing do?
looks for genetic genes
What does genetic sequencing do?
used to confirm a diagnosis of a genetic disease, identifies carriers & also identifies a genetic disease in embryo/foetus
What is the heel prick test?
uses the growth of a strain of bacteria on a specially-prepared agar plate as a sign for presence of high levels of proten trypsinogen found in babies with CF
- a sample of blood is applied to agar plate & growth of bacteria will be a positive indicator for disorders
