1.2 - Who is at risk of CVD? Flashcards
1
Q
Define risk.
A
probability of occurence of an unwanted event or outcome
2
Q
Define probability.
A
how likely a risk is going to occur.
3
Q
What is a correlation?
A
where 2 events happen at same time, but one event doen’t necessarily cause the other
4
Q
What is causation?
A
direct link between one event happening & another event happening
5
Q
What is a null hypothesis?
A
assumes there is no dffnc bwtn control grp & experiment grp
6
Q
What are the 5 things you need to look out for when evaluation the design of a study? Why?(for each reason)
A
- sample size - the greater the no. of people, the more reliable the results
- variables - more variables have been controlled, the more reliable & valid the results
- data collection - the less bias in collecting data, the more reliable the results
- controls - the presence of controls increases validity
- repetition - if other scientists produce the same results, results = more reliable
7
Q
What are features of a cohort study?
A
follows a grp of individuals over a long period of time
8
Q
List 4 features of a good study/experiment into risk factors & disease.
A
- clear aim
- representative sample
- several controlled variables
- high reproducibility
