5
Q

how does a thrombus form

A
  1. atheroma ruptures endothelium
  2. releasing clotting factors
  3. prothrombin -> thrombin
  4. fibrinogen -> fibrin
  5. formation of a mesh worm that clots the bold

14
Q

what do HDLs do

16
Q

how does cholesterol accumulate in the blood

A

LDL transports cholesterol to cells, once a cell has a sufficient cholesterol a negative feedback system occurs inhibiting new LDL receptors causing LDL to circulate in the blood where it may deposit cholesterol in the blood forming atheromas

17
Q

what does the ratio of HDL to LDL mean

A

a higher ratio of HDL to LDL is healthy

18
Q

how can you increase HDL

A

physical activity
reduce fat in diet

19
Q

how does medication reduce blood cholesterol

A

inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol by liver cells
