What is a stem cell?
A
Can divide by mitosis an unlimited number of times
Can differentiate into a specialised cell

What are the 3 types of potency?
A
Totipotency - Stem cells that can differentiate into ANY type of cell found in an embryo, as well as extra-embryonic cells (cells making up placenta)
Pluripotency - Stem cells that can differentiate into ANY type of cell found in an embryo, but NOT extra-embryonic cells
Multipotency - Adult stem cells which can differentiate into lots of cells but NOT those found in embryos
