2.6.3 Identifying Mitosis in Plant Cells Flashcards

1
Q

Method to observe Mitosis in Plants

A
  • Onion root tip
  • (root tip because thats where meristem is)
  • Place root tip in stain (easier to see)
  • Gently squash on glass slide

Q

Limitations of identifying Mitosis in Plant Cells

A
  • Difficult to distinguish between prophase and telophase
  • Size of cells may appear inconsistent in different specimens
  • Optical microscopes have low magnification and resolution so cannot observe some smaller structures
  • Treatment of specimens when preparing slides can damage the structure of the cells
