2.6 Flashcards
What is eco-design?
a more comprehensive approach than green design as it focuses on all three environmental categories - material, energy, pollution and waste, at once, making it more complex
What is the timescale to implement eco-design?
Often focuses on radical changes at a long timescale
What is a cradle-to-cradle design?
An approach to design that aims to eliminate waste and where products are meant to be made again
What is a cradle-to-grave design?
An approach to design that considers the environmental effects of a product all of the way from manufacture to disposal
What is a life cycle analysis (LCA)
a tool used to assess the environmental impact of a design
What stages of a product’s life does the LCA analyze?
Preproduction
Production
Distribution
Utilization
Disposal
What are the environmental considerations of the LCA?
Pollution
Contamination
Consumption of natural resources/ energy
