What is training?
Training is teaching employees skills that they can use in the workforce.
What is the importance of training?
- Training allows for more efficient workers
- It improves the quality of decision making
- It can improve customer service
- It can reduce accidents
- it can increase businesses’ competitiveness.
What are the kinds of training?
- On-the-job
- Off-the-job
- Induction
What is induction training?
Induction training is normally done in the first day, where one workers introduces the new recruit to their tasks, the location of facilities and the other workers.
Advantages:
- Introduces new worker
- Employee feels a sense of belonging
Disadvantages:
- Takes time from worker introducing
- increases business costs
- no output but have salary
What is on-the-job training?
On the job training is having an experienced worker become a mentor to the new recruit. The new recruit can shadow the worker and learn as they go.
Advantages:
- Cheaper
- Producing output while training
- Employees can learn the businesses’ way
Disadvantages:
- Experienced worker slowed down
- Employee can pick up bad habits
- Make more mistakes (both)
- Doesn’t learn most up-to-date methods
What is off-the-job training?
This is training done by professionals, it could be by the company or an external company. This is normally used for jobs with high technical skills needed.
Advantages:
- Newest techniques learned
- Does not disrupt other employees
Disadvantages:
- Expensive
- No output provided
What can compliance or the inverse of health laws do?
Compliance:
- Good reputation
- Less hospital bills to pay
- Reduce business costs
- Output stays high
Non-Compliance:
- Bad reputation
- can be dismissed for misconduct
- higher labour turnover
