Features of apical meristem?

A

Occur at growing tips of roots or shoots

Gives height above ground

Gives depth below ground

Primary growth

Leads to formation of permanent tissue.

Features of lateral meristem?

A

Allow stems / roots to increase in girth

Secondary growth (aka secondary thickening)

Associated with a tissue called cambium

In a woody dicot stem, cambium is arranged in a ring just underneath the bark
