2.2 Flashcards
What is meant by a differentiated cell?
A changed cell to perform a function.
What is a tissue?
Group of the same cells working together to carry out a job
What three tissues are found in your Stomach?
Muscle
Epithelial
Glandular
What does muscular tissue do?
Contract
What does glandular tissue do?
Produces enzymes or hormones
What does epithelial tissue do?
Covers the inside and outside of organs
How do the three tissues in the stomach aid digestion?
Muscular- churns food
Glandular- enzymes to break down food
Epithelial- protects lining
What is an organ?
Several tissues work together to carry out a job
What is meant by an organ system?
Group of organs working together to carry out a function
Name an organ system in the body.
Digestive Circulatory Respiratory Nervous Reproductive
What are the key organs of the digestive system starting from the mouth?
Salivary glands Stomach Liver Small intestine Large intestine
What do the salivary glands do?
Make saliva which contains enzymes
What does the stomach do?
Digests food molecules
What happens in the small intestine?
Food molecules are digested and absorbed into the blood
What does the liver do?
Produces bile
What does the gall bladder do?
Store bile
What does the pancreas do?
Produces enzymes
What does the large intestine do?
Absorbs water to produce faeces
What are the three main organs of a plant?
Stem
Roots
Leaves
Name the plant tissues.
Epidermal
Mesophyll
Xylem
Phloem
What does epidermal tissue do for a plant?
Covers the leaf
What does mesophyll tissue do?
Packed with chloroplasts to carry out photosynthesis
What does phloem do?
Take glucose and minerals from leaves to the rest of the plant
What does xylem do?
Bring water up to leaves from the roots
