What is a blog?
A website that is typically ran by an individual or small group. It is regularly updated and informal, in the style of a conversation
Advantages of blogs
Anyone can create one
Regularly updated so content stays fresh and relevant
Can help to build a sense of community
Disadvantages of blogs
May have limited audience
Audience could give negative feedback which may be damaging to the campaign
Many blogs out there so may be hard to stand out
What is viral messaging?
Content that people share so that it rapidly becomes widespread across social media in order to amplify the campaigns message
Advantages of viral messaging
Can reach a large audience in a small amount of time
Can generate high levels of engagement
Could create a sense of community and encourage users to create their own message surrounding the topic
Disadvantages of viral messaging
May be a short term method
Message may be controversial or misinterpreted causing backlash and negative publicity
May require time and resources
What is social networking?
Using social media platforms to share the message and promote the cause of the campaign. Could include, Instagram, twitter, Facebook, TikTok
Advantages of social networking
Can target specific demographics
Can be cost effective
Allows for engagement and direct interaction with the audience
Disadvantages of social networking
Could receive negative feedback — public criticisms could harm the reputation of the campaign
Misinformation can easily circulate on social media
If campaign already lacks support, it may be hard to depend on the algorithm to promote it
What is poster advertising?
Creating posters that advertise the campaigns message and goals. They are visual displays that can attract a persons attention and they are often placed in high traffic areas
Advantages of poster advertising
Usually cost effective
Useful for smaller or newer campaigns
Relatively quick and simple to create and share
Disadvantages of poster advertising
Can only put a limited amount of information on a poster
Weather may damage poster over time
Can be difficult to find the right spot where people will pay attention to the poster
What is radio advertising?
Ads that are broadcast on radio stations. They involve audio messages outlining the details of the campaign and they allow the campaigners to reach a new demographic
Advantages of radio advertising
Allows people to target a certain audience
Can be cost effective
Have a high reach as many listen to the radio
Disadvantages of radio advertising
No visuals so it’s harder to grab people’s attention
People don’t often pay full attention to the radio as they often have it on as background noise
Many listen however it’s still a limited audience
