What are the 3 interview types?
- unstructured interviews

What is an unstructured interview?
participants talk about a topic in general. Works well if you want to obtain insight into a topic
What is a semistructured interview?
contain a series of questions that need to be addressed but have no specific format regarding what the answers should look like. Here the interviewer often asks “could you elaborate”, “can you explain”
What is a fully structured interview?
all the questions and possible answer categories are decided beforehand, this way allows to collect quantitative data.
What are the 3 phases of in-depth interviews?
- preparation
- execution
- analysis
What do you do in Phase 1 of In-depth interviews: Preparation? (4)
- Define the problem and the information needs
- Define the public to study (size, selection and collection of sample)
- Write a script (blocks and questions)
- Field work: place of realization

- Define the purpose of the interview and use of the information obtained
- The confidentiality and anonymity of responses is guaranteed
- The type of collaboration desired from the interviewee is explained

Look for a way to be an accomplice or ally of the interviewee
What do you do when you use the ‘appeal of naivety’ interview technique?
Be surprised by the responses, give the impression that you are receiving new and attractive info
What do you do when you use the ‘mirror or echo’ interview technique?
Repeat the last words of the interviewee when you think they may have strong emotional content for them
What do you do when you use the ‘synthesis’ interview technique?
Summarize the expressions expressed by the interviewee to see the effect they produce when they are pronounced by another person
What do you do when you use the ‘direct interpretation’ interview technique?
Issue hypothesis about what the interviewee gives and analyzing the degree of rejection, acceptance or qualification with which the interviewee responds.
