2.1.2 compounds, formulae and equations Flashcards
what does an ionic equation show
it shows the reacting particles and the products they form
how does position in the periodic table allow us to predict the ion charge
the group that it is in shows the number of electrons in its outer shell so we can figure out how many electrons it needs to loose or gain to gain a full outer shell and therefore the charge on the ion
what are the four state symbols used in equations
s - solid
l- liquid
g - gas
aq - aqueous
how are ions formed
when electrons are transferred from one atom to another which causes an imbalance of charge in the atom
how are ionic compounds formed
electrostatic attractions between positively and negatively charges ions
what is the formula of a nitrate ion
NO3-
what is the formula of a carbonate ion
CO3 2-
what is the formula of a sulfate ion
SO4 2-
what is the formula of a hydroxide ion
OH-
what is the formula of an ammonium ion
NH4+
what is the formula of a zinc ion
Zi 2+
what is the formula of a silver ion
Ag+
