Usually higher status.

Can come from a lower status background.
Do Amateurs and Professionals still play in the same teams, like in Pre and Post Industrial Britain?
No they play in separate teams and separate leagues.
What is meant by Globalisation?
It is a process that involves sport as a worldwide business and features corporate brands, media coverage and freedom of movement for athletes.
What is an example of Globalisation?
Football players from all over the world are coming to England to play for English teams, due to having seen media coverage.
What is meant by The Golden Triangle?
The relationship between sport, sponsorship and media where they all influence each other.

What is the difference between the viewing of sport in the 20th Century compared to the 21st Century?
In the 20th Century, there was a lack of TV coverage for sports so more supporters travelled to watch the games.
However in the 21st Century, there is lots of TV coverage for sports so less travel to watch the games.
What are the issues with globalisation and the media?
Females are significantly under-represented in the media compared to males.
Ethnic minorities are also under-represented.
Lack of media attention to tackling inequalities based on class, race and gender.
Usually focuses on high profile sports and athletes.
Brands can demand too much of a player or athlete that they sponsor.
Sports are sometimes streamed at awkward times, so people around the world struggle to watch a sport in another country.
What are the issues with the media’s portrayal of Elite Female Performers?
Women are highly sexualised in sport.
The media focuses on women sexually more than their achievements.
Women get paid substantially less than men.
Women’s sporting events are broadcast less than men’s.
