Briefs
A written legal argument is presented to a court to aid it in reaching a conclusion on the legal issues involved in the case.
Concurring opinion
To agree with the majority but for a different reason.
Constitutional court
The federal courts established by Article III of the Constitution.
Court of Appeals
A court to which appeals are taken in a federal circuit or a state.
Criminal Law
Trying to take your freedom, rights, and life.
Defendant
An individual, company, or institution sued or accused in a court of law.
Dissenting opinion
Disagrees with the majority opinion.
District court
They have original jurisdiction. The authority to hear about a court case first.
Exclusive jurisdiction
Only a particular court can decide a case.

Court’s ability to call a law unconstitutional from the legislative branch, call back executive orders and call the president’s actions unconstitutional in the executive branch.

Established banks and federal banks cannot be taxed because it is not necessary or proper.

An explanation or analysis of the reasoning behind the decision.
Original jurisdiction
Power the district courts have. The authority to hear about a case first.
Plaintiff
A person who brings a case against another in a court of law.
Stare Decisis
Let the decision stand. Whatever the Supreme Court comes up with stands.
Strict constructionist (strict interpretation)
Follow the constitution word for word. Also called a structuralist.
Writ of certiorari
When the supreme court reaches down and grabs a case.
