use the volitional + と思っています to talk aboutour determinations.
i have decided to/i am going to study Japanese for three hours every day.
you can use the volitional + とおもいます, which suggests that the decision to perform the activity is being made on the spot at the time of speaking. とおもっています suggests that you have already decided to do something.
毎日三時間日本語を勉強しようと思っています。
the te-form of a verb plus おくdescribes an action performed in preparation for something.
since there will be an exam tomorrow, I will study for it tonight.
