20 - Behavioral Assessment Flashcards
1
Q
Types of Behavioral Assessment
A
- Naturalistic: in natural setting
- Analogue: task-based in lab (can lead to greater freq. of behavior of interest, high reliability and internal validity, but weaker ecological validity)
- Self-Monitoring/Diary: low cost, can help self-awareness, may work just because of reactivity; (also, may be unreliable/inaccurate, pt may backfill, pt burden, lower validity)
- Behavior Ratings & Self Report: cheap and easy (but IRT reveals problems with likert scales, and retrospective ratings)
2
Q
Coding
A
Time:
- Event-based: codes whenever a discrete behavior occurs
- Interval-based: codes during a specified span of time
Behavior:
- Sign-based: codes small units of behavior, like movements
- Message-based: codes function/meaning of behavior
3
Q
ABC Model
A
- Antecedent - behavior - consequence
- Part of functional behavioral assessment (FBA)
- To identify pattern of sequences that involve problem behavior and hopefully change A or C
4
Q
Case Conceptualization (4 P’s)
A
Protective Factors: strengths
Predisposing Factors: vulnerabilities
Precipitating Factors: trigger
Perpetuating Factors: maintaining
Treatment would focus on addressing the perpetuating factors, helping the client identify precipitating factors, while building on protective factors and considering predisposing factors.
