2
Q

what is light

A

electromagnetic radiation within a particular range of wavelengths

  • electromagnetic radiation = ‘energy that is produced when certain things happen’

eg heating metal > produces electromagnetic radiation > photoreceptors stimulated > see hot metal as glowing (red>brighter and yellower)

long wavelengths

A

= lower the energy of the radiation

= radio wave

Q

order of waves

A

long (low energy) > short (high energy)

radio > light > x-ray > gamma rays

radio = 1 x 10(11) nm
microwave = 1 x 10(7) nm
infrared = 780nm-1mm
visible light = 400-700nm
ultraviolet = 100-400nm
x-ray = 0.1nm
gamma ray = 0.001nm
