2. Serial and Compound Dilution Flashcards
Dilution uses different dilution factors?
Compound dilution
Dilution uses same/Common dilution factors
Serial Dilution
NOTE:
Sample
Dilution = ———
Sample + Diluent
Material being diluted
Solute
Medium making up the rest of the solution
Diluent
The factor by which the stock solution is diluted
may be expressed as the ratio of the volume of the fial diluted solution to the initial volume removed from the stock solution
Dilution factor
NOTE:
Final volume
Dilution Factor = ——————————-
Initial volume
Where is serial dilution is usually used in IS?
Antibody titer
SAMPLE PROBLEM: You need to do a 1:500 dilution for a certain assay (Compound dilution)
0.1 mL + 49.9mL NSS
0.1mL
———- x 10
50 mL
1mL serum
= ——————–
500 mL
NOTE: Think a number divisible for 500?
= 5 x 10 x10 = 500
NOTE: NO DECIMAL in dilution (Multiply it by 10 or depends)
