2 - Microscopy Flashcards
What do microscopes do?
They help us see things we can’t see with the naked eye.
What do light microscopes do?
It uses light and lenses to form an image of specimen and magnify it. It also lets us see individual cells and large subcellular structures, like nuclei.
What does an electron microscope do?
It uses electrons instead of light to form an image. It has a much higher magnification than light microscopes. It also has higher resolution. It also lets you see much smaller things is more detail like the internal structure of mitochondria and chloroplasts and even tinier things like ribosomes and plasmids.
What is resolution?
Resolution is the ability to distinguish between two points so a higher resolution gives a sharper image.
What is the formula for magnification?
Magnification = image size / real size
