2. Gastrulaton Flashcards
1
Q
When does Gastrulation occur?
A
- In the third week of development
2
Q
Briefly, what occurs during gastrulation?
A
- Bilaminar disk –> Trilaminar disk
- Consists of three germ layers:
- Ectoderm
- Mesoderm
- Endoderm
3
Q
In depth, how does gastrulation occur?
A
- Primitive streak forms in the caudal (top bit) epiblast
- Migration and invagination of epiblast cells
- Displacement of hypoblast (lower layer) and creation of third layer
- = ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm
4
Q
There are two holes in which layer, and what is their purpose?
A
- There are two holes in the MESODERM (one near the top, one near the bottom if you’re looking at the mesoderm from above or below)
- They will become the future mouth and anus
5
Q
What layers form from the epiblast, the new layer and hypoblast respectively?
A
- Ectoderm
- Mesoderm
- Endoderm
6
Q
What body ‘parts/systems’ are derived from each layer?
A
7
Q
What does a cross section of the embryo look like now it has three layers?
A
