- Pressure-restricting device.
A valve or device designed for the purpose of reducing the downstream water pressure under flowing (residual) conditions only.
- High-rise building.
A building greater than 75 feet in height.
The building height is measured from the lowest level of fire department vehicle access to the floor of the highest occupiable story. For the purposes of this section, a penthouse of any area with an occupant load greater than 10 shall be considered a story.
- Class 1 system.
A Class 1 stand pipe system provides 2-1/2 in. hose connections to supply water for use by fire departments and those trained in handling heavy fire streams.
- Class 2 system.
A Class 2 stand pipe system provides 1-1/2 in. hose stations to supply water for use primarily by the building occupants or by the fire department during initial response. Class 2 stand pipe system are permitted for high pile and rack storage occupancies only.
