Actor
In a business process ->
A person, group, department, organization, or information system
Activities
A function in a business process that receives inputs and processes outputs.
An activity can be performed by a human, a computer system, or both.
Business Process
(1) A network of activities, repositories, roles, resources, and flows that interact to achieve some business function / business system
(2) A network of activities that generate value by turning inputs into outputs
Business Process Modeling Notation
BPMN
Standard set of terms and graphical notations for documenting business processes.
Data flows
Movements of data items from one activity to another activity, or to or from a repository
Effective Business Process
A business process that enables the organization to accomplish its strategy.
Efficiency
Ratio of costs to benefits
Information
(1) Knowledge derived from data, where data is defined as recorded facts or figures
(2) data presented in a meaningful context
(3) data processed by summing, ordering, averaging, grouping, comparing, or other operations
(4) a difference that makes a difference
Repository
In a business process model, a collection of something:
For example, a database is a ‘repository’ of data.
Role
In a business process, a collection of activities
Sequence Flows
A BPMN that documents a sequence of action among business process activities.
Swimlane Format
Type of business process diagram.
Like LANES in a swimming pool, each role is shown in its own horizontal rectangle.
Can be used to simplify process diagrams, and draw attention to interaction among components of a diagram.
