Error theories:
-Aging as the result of an accumulation of error in the synthesis of DNA and RNA

Programmed aging theories:
- Aging as a predetermined or ”programmed” process
- Neuroendocrine-immunological theory- the effectiveness of the body’s homeostatic adjustments declines with aging—leading to the failure of adaptive mechanisms, aging, and death

Disengagement theory:
proposing that old age involves a gradual withdrawal of the individual from society and of society from the individual
Activity theory-proposes that successful aging occurs when older adults stay active and maintain social interactions
Age stratification theory-Age stratification is a system of conferring power and respect onto certain age groups.
