2 Flashcards
Biological weathering
Animals and plants can wear away rocks. Rabbits can burrow into a cracked in a rock, making it bigger and splitting the rocks
Chemical weathering
Rain water is slightly acidic because carbon dioxide from the air dissolves in it. Minerals in the rocks may react with the rainwater, causing the rock to be weakened.
Physical (freeze thaw)
Precipitation becomes trapped in the cracks or joints in the rocks. Temperature drops and water expands by 9-10% putting pressure on rocks. Ice melts when temperature rises. When this process repeatedly occurs, rocks weakens.
Post glacial river process (lowland)
River erodes (vertically) creating misfit steams and deposits alluvium (fertile deposits)
Post glacial river process (upland)
When climate gets colder (glacial period)chalk freezes turning impermeable. Water will run of surface eroding the valley
Slope process (lowland)
Rockfalls/landslides. Rocks and debris side down
Slope process (upland)
Dip slope is the lower outer slope
