2-5 Review of Algebraic Properties of Equality for Geometry Flashcards
Addition property of equality
if any quantity is added to one side of an equation then that quantity must be added to the other side of the equation to keep the equation balanced.
subtraction property of equality
if any quantity is subtracted to one side of an equation then that quantity must be subtracted to the other side of the equation to keep the equation balanced.
multiplication property of equality
if any quantity is multiplied to one side of an equation then that quantity must be multiplied to the other side of the equation to keep the equation balanced.
division property of equality
if any quantity is divided to one side of an equation then that quantity must be divided to the other side of the equation to keep the equation balanced.
distribution property of equality
if the sum or difference of two or more quantities are multiplied by a number then the result is always the sum or difference of the product of that number and each quantity
substitution property of equality
if one quantity is equal to another quantity then one of those quantity can be replaced by the other quantity and the equation still remains true
