Adverse effects of propranolol
Mild: GI discomfort, rash, fatigue, hypersomnia
Severe: bradycardia, hypotension, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia
First line treatment of infantile hemangioma`
- intralesional corticosteroid, oral prednisolone if too large
- propranolol
When to treat with PDL
when the hemangiomas has involuted. Do not treat proliferating hemangiomas
Venous malformation
- unlike hemangiomas, will grow with child instead of involuting
- treat with sclerotherapy
capillary malformations, varicosities, limb hypertrophy, limb-length discrepancies, no AV fistulae
Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome
High-output cardiac failure; Vascular malformations with AV fistulae
Parkes-Weber syndrome
DIC
Kasabach-Merritt syndrome
- hemangioma with thrombocytopenia
- caused by hemangioendothelioma
- present at birth
Treat with sclerotherapy
venous and lymphatic malformation
Treat with embolization
AV- malformations
Treat with steroids and propranolol
infantile hemangiomas
