2 Flashcards
What are 2-amino acids?
2-Amino acids are proteins that have a NH2 do you to Anna COOH bonded to the same carbon atoms.
What distinguishes one amino acid from the other?
The C group coming off the second carbon
What is a zwitter ion?
An amino acid that when placed into a neutral solution will act as an acid and also a base. An iron is formed that has both and negative and positive charge.
What is the isoelectric point of an amino acid?
The pH of the amino acid will exist as a zwitter ion on
What happens can happen when zwitter are reacted with strong alkaline solutions?
It will produce an anionic form of the amino acid
What happens when a zwitter ion is reacted with a strong acid solution?
It produces the catatonic form of the amino acid
When does the solubility of a zwitter ion increase?
When the iron conform, more hydrogen bonds with water
