2 Flashcards
Biomodal, unimodal, trimodal?
Modes within a fraction of the data.
Given a response variable (e.g percentile), how do you find the explanatory variable?
Considering IVT holds, you can find the point at that response variable, then find the value of the explanatory variable associated with that point.

•Range
•Variance
•Standard deviation
•
Range?
Maximum minus the minimum
What is the problem of range?
It is biased to sample size since small samples tend to give lower estimate of the range than large sample.
Ranges are commonly reported in?
Box plots (max and min value)
Interquartile range?
Range of the middle 50% of ordered observations.
Variance?
Average squared deviation from the mean.
!!!!!Is the amount of variation for different means the same if the standard deviation is the same?
No since the variation is the proportion of the average but the standard deviation is just
Skew?
Measurement of asymmetry (refers to the pointy tail of a distribution).
