18 Flashcards
Binary?
A categorical variable with two categories.
Publication bias?
Papers are more likely to be published if P<0.05.
Simulation?
Simulates the sampling process on a computer many times. It generates the null distribution from estimates done on the simulated data.
Assumptions of simulation? 1•
Null hypothesis is true.
Permutation test?
Are used when looking at associations between different variances. They are most useful when violating the assumptions of parametric test.
Bootstrapping?
It is a method for estimation (and confidence intervals). It is often used for hypothesis testing too. It resample with replacement, and resample values within a given group.
Likelihood?
Considers many possible hypotheses, not just one.
Law of likelihood?
A particular data set supports one hypothesis better than another if the likelihood of that hypothesis is higher than the likelihood of the other hypothesis. Therefore, we try to find the hypothesis with the maximum likelihood.
Likelihood can result in?
An estimation of a population proportion.
Bayesian statistics?
