What is Rhyme?
the beat or flow of a poem created by patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables

a rhyme that occurs within a line of poetry

the repetition of vowel sounds within words, phrases, or sentences

the repetition of the same consonant sound in a line of text
What is Alliteration?
the repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words, close together in a phrase
What is Simile?
comparing 2 unlike things using “like” or “as”
What is Metaphor?
comparing 2 unlike things by giving the qualities of one to the other
What is Personification?
giving human characteristics to something that’s not human
What is Anaphora?
the repetition of a word or words at the beginning of 7 clauses, phrases, or sentences
What is Imagery?
language that’s visually descriptive and paints a picture
What is Hyperbole?
exaggerated statements not meant to be taken literally
What is Symbolism?
using symbols or objects to represent greater ideas
What is Allusion?
a figure of speech that references a famous person, place, event, or literary work
What is Mood?
the feeling created by the writer for the reader
