What is an independent clause?
a group of words that contains a subject and verb, and can stand on its own as a complete sentence
What is a dependent clause?
a group of words that contains subject and verb but can’t stand on its own as a complete sentence
What is a run-on?
contains 2 or ore independent clauses that should be separated with a period, semicolon, or conjunction
What is a preposition?
used before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, time, place, location, etc.
What is a Concrete Noun?
Tangible objects that can be seen and touched
What is a Abstract Noun?
word that represents an idea, concept, or state of being that can’t be seen or touched
What is a Proper Noun?
nouns that specifically name a person, place, or thing, Always capitalized
What is a noun?
identifies any person, place, or thing
What is an adjective?
modifies or describes a noun
What is a verb?
describes action
What is an adverb?
modifies an adjective, verb , or adverb or entire sentence
What is a Simple sentence?
a sentence with 1 independent clause and no dependent clause
What is a Compound sentence?
a sentence with multiple independent clauses, but no dependent clause. The independent clauses are joined by a conjunction
What is a Complex sentence?
a sentence with 1 independent clause and at least 1 dependent clause
What is a Compound-Complex sentence?
a sentence with multiple independent clauses and at least 1 dependent clause
