is like studying how people talk differently depending on who they’re talking to and where they are. It’s about how language can change based on things like who you’re talking to (your friends, your boss, your family) and where you are (at home, at work, in a different city).
Sociolinguistic (appropriate use of the language within a context)
Here we study things like politeness, sarcasm, implied requests, and how people use language to get their point across beyond the literal words.
Pragmatics(an important branch of linguistics)
is like looking at the whole conversation, understanding how it flows, and figuring out what it means as a whole. It’s about the structure and organization of spoken or written communication.
Discourse
means all the ways we communicate without actually using words. It includes things like tone of voice, volume, speed of speech, and even sounds like laughter or sighs. These non-verbal cues can add meaning to what we’re saying.
Paralinguistic
the range of linguistic varieties that the speaker has at his disposal, and which he can use as a member of his speech community
linguistic
