1D Motion Flashcards
Is distance a Scalar or Vector quantity?
Scalar (only magnitude)
Is displacement a Scalar or Vector quantity?
Vector (both magnitude and direction)
What is Kinematics?
Study of HOW something moves; involves change in position over time; can be uniform or uniform
What is the equation for Average Velocity?
v=Δx/Δt (units= m/s)
v= (v+vo)/2
What is the equation for Instantaneous Velocity?
x=vΔt
v=x/Δt
What is the equation for Relative Velocity?
Same direction: v=v1-v2
Opposite direction: v=v1+v2
What does the slope of a displacement vs time graph represent?
v=Δx/Δt
slope= velocity
What does the area of a displacement vs time graph represent?
Nothing lolz
What does the slope of a velocity vs time graph represent?
a=Δv/Δt
slope= acceleration
What does the area of a velocity vs time graph represent?
x=vΔt
area= displacement
What is Acceleration?
A rate of change in velocity; vector quantity
What is the equation for Average Acceleration?
Δv=at
What does it mean to have zero acceleration?
ΣF=0; does not necessarily mean at rest, could have constant velocity
What is the equation for displacement in the x-direction?
x=vt
v^2=vo^2+2a(Δx)
What does it mean to have negative velocity?
To have a backward motion or going back to the origin
