When and where was it signed?
3rd March 1918 at Brest-Litvosk in Belarus (Western front).
Who did it involve and what was it?
It ended the war between Russia and Germany, removing Russia from ww1.

Why was it signed?
The 1917 economy was completely ruined - Total Debt at time was 50 billion rubles.
Completed Lenin’s April thesis and helped him achieve his land decrees.
The army was in disarray and couldn’t fight the civil war and couldn’t fight the civil war and foreign war.
Both Russia and Germany wanted Ukraine- Bread Basket of Europe.
What was the process?
1st meting decided that there would be a 2 week ceasefire.
Trotsky didn’t care for the Treaty as he believed that communism would spread to Germany anyway so the conditions would seize to exist.
On 12th Dec both sides met again and an Armstice was signed and lasted until Jan 14th- meant that they would have to pull out of countries they had already conquered. Ukraine wanted self-determinaTion with GERMANY.
Germany demanded that Russia recognise the independence of the Baltic states aswell as Finland, Ukraine and Georgia, demobilisation and can’t spread propaganda in German controlled areas.
On 17th Feb the Bolshevik central committee stormed the Russian capital and rejected Lenin’s motion of peace.

32% of agricultural land.
54% of industrial plants
89% coal mines
1/3 Population lost: 55 million.
